London’s “Parliamentary Quarter” was for a long time something of a hidden gem for people seeking a Central London residence with a slightly lower price tag than other SW1 districts. However, a recent influx of prime property developments has seen Westminster rival its neighbour Mayfair in terms of desirability.
Traditionally, Westminster was viewed as a rather low key and unexciting neighbourhood, with crowds of civil servants departing at the end of the working day and no atmosphere of an evening. But around 2011, developers cottoned on to the fact that there was simply not enough housing in SW1 to meet demand – and so some extensive redevelopment began. Several former parliamentary buildings were converted into luxury apartment blocks, such as The Courtyard and there have been some brand new buildings created as well, including Wellington House on Buckingham Gate. Adding further value to the area, some fashionable bars and restaurants set up shop and now the area blends almost seamlessly between Mayfair, Belgravia and Pimlico.
Westminster is home to some of London’s most prestigious and iconic buildings and monuments, including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. There is a wonderful open space here in the shape of St James’ Park. It is of course also the home of one of Britain’s most famous residents, the Prime Minister, at no. 10 Downing Street.
There are good transport links with both Westminster and St James Park underground stations close by, proving easy and direct access to District, Circle and Jubilee lines, whilst Embankment and Victoria are also nearby and provide further access to mainline, Victoria and Northern lines.
