Esher Area Overview
The pretty village green and a string of boutique shops and fine dining options make Esher an enticing place to live.
Its character is not the only draw card: Esher has good transport links into London and an advantageous setting close to the lively centre of Kingston-Upon-Thames. It is also surrounded by some of the area’s loveliest countryside and open spaces, including the delightful Claremont Landscape Gardens, which have remarkably retained the same layout for almost 300 years.
Esher first rose to prosperity in the 16th century when it became a hunting ground for Henry VIII. Its heritage is still evidenced today by a number of historic buildings and many Tudor-style properties. Hampton Court Place itself is just a short drive from the town.
Yet it is a place where old meets new. Just outside of the town centre lies the famous Sandown Park Racecourse, which not only hosts some major horse races but is also something of a cultural hub: various events and exhibitions take place here throughout the year. Golf is also hugely popular in and around Esher, with courses at Moore Place, St. George’s Hill and The Wisley.
Esher and the surrounding areas have some of the best schools in the country, making it a great choice for families as well as professionals who wish to enjoy the tranquil location combined with the convenience of an easy commute to London.
