About Maunsel Road, North Newton, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA7, England

The accommodation includes 13 charming, characterful bedrooms, with an additional 4 bedrooms on the ground level of the newly renovated South Wing a few feet away from the main house.

At the ground level, the Ballroom has been converted into two beautifully decorated period drawing rooms together with large dining room, library, cloakrooms, grand, paneled entrance hall and large kitchen which is more commercial in nature.

The property is steeped in history with some artefacts dating back to the Roman period and secret passages, rooms and hidden staircases add to the charm.

Throughout history Maunsel has had many house guests who include King Alfred the Great, Queen Matilda and King John. Geoffrey Chaucer also lived at Maunsel for 10 years in the 1390s whilst he wrote the Canterbury Tales in which he based his tales on local characters. The Wife of Bath was modelled on a lady who married five times at St Michael’s Church. This unique Saxon chapel is one of the oldest churches in the country and is situated within the estate.

Maunsel House is a wonderfully welcoming home, beautifully furnished with more than a touch of eccentricity!
